Our caviar
Where it comes from, why it is in a skincare bottle at all, and the one thing to know before you buy.
The name is not decoration. Caviar extract is in every product in the range, and it is the most expensive thing in the bottle.
Where it comes from
The extract is made from non-fertilised sturgeon roe, Acipenser baerii, farmed in the Aquitaine region of south-west France, under controlled standards. It is then refined into a cosmetic extract by the Swiss laboratory that develops the formulas.
Farmed, not taken from the wild. That distinction matters: wild sturgeon are among the most threatened fish in the world, and aquaculture is the reason a caviar product can exist without taking from those populations.
Why caviar at all
Roe is, biologically, a store cupboard. It has to carry everything an egg needs, so it is dense in proteins, lipids, minerals and vitamins, including a high proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids.
In a cosmetic formula that translates into something straightforward: it nourishes and conditions, and it leaves skin feeling softer and looking better fed. It is a conditioning agent of unusual richness, used at a concentration most brands would not pay for.
What it feels like
Not what people expect. There is no oiliness and no fishiness. The extract is refined and the formulas are lightly fragranced. The serum is a fine, almost weightless fluid that absorbs in seconds and leaves nothing under make-up.
One thing to know before you buy
Every product in this range contains caviar extract. If you have a fish or seafood allergy, do not use them. If you are unsure, patch test on the inner arm before first use, and speak to your doctor.
The rest of the bottle
Caviar extract works alongside a peptide, a humectant and a group of antioxidants. Each one is explained on the ingredients page, in plain language, with nothing hidden behind a trademarked name.
